Experimentation
Experiments by Cefel and Dillon castle:
The experimentation have been done in order to know the impact of flame weeding BIOMEGA® in vineyard. These experiments have allowed to know the treatment frequency and the weeding efficacy.
Effect in natural area:
The flame weeding control does not leave any trace in plant, soil or water.
Season of treatment:
The beginning of treatment in vineyards has to be done early in the season on young shoots.
Climate condition:
The best moment to treat is in the morning after a rain, with an important hydrometry or on wet vegetation.
Number of passage:
It needs 4 to 8 weeks between two passages. So, 3 to 6 passages by year, depending of: the amount of weed, type of soil and climate condition. It is recommended to pass a second time one week after the first intervention.
Consequence on vineyard:
There is no damage on trees or grapes.
Effect on the production:
On the “Chasselas vineyard”, there is no yield difference between a flame and a chemical weeding. The weight of the grape and the berry is equivalent. But a difference of lower acidity is observed on flame weeding.
Temperature measurement in the plot :
A sensitive heat captor was put in a grape zone, and every time the flame weeding machine passed, the temperature grows only from 0,1 to 0,2 °C.
Astuteness in the plot with the irrigation system:
The start of the drop by drop tube (at the top of the row), has to be protected. Then, inside the row, the drop by drop is not destroyed by the flame diffuser.
